Built in 1953 by the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority, commonly known as “Carraízo”, its name is Represa Loíza (Loíza Dam). Located approximately 13.5 miles (21.7 km) upstream from the Río Grande de Loíza basin in the Atlantic Ocean.
The normal surface of the lake is 134.95 feet (41 meters) above sea level. Its original capacity up to the top of its gates is 23,500 acre-feet. It was originally built for hydroelectric generation (3,000 Kilowatts).
It is currently used exclusively as a supply of water for domestic consumption in the Metropolitan Area.
Located approximately three miles south of the town of Toa Alta. Its normal capacity with the floodgates closed is 33,000 acre-feet. It covers an area of 820 acres, with a maximum depth of 100 feet and a length of 7 miles.
Built in 1974 for PRASA by Dep de Spie Batignolles.
Its waters are used only for domestic consumption in the Metro Area.
Located in the Bayamón neighborhood of Cidra, two miles northwest of the town. Its capacity is 5,300 acre-feet, is about three miles long and has a maximum depth of 60 feet.
Initially built for the municipality of San Juan, it was later transferred to PRASA.
Its waters are used for consumption by the metropolitan population.
Located one mile northeast of the town of Patillas, built using semihydraulic filling between 1910 and 1914. It is 127 feet high above the Río Grande de Patillas.
Its normal capacity is 14,305 acre-feet, with an area of 326 acres and 2 miles long, it has a depth of approximately 80 feet.
Its waters are used for the Southeastern Irrigation System. Some of its waters are used for consumption by several aqueducts.
Located in the municipality of Villalba, approximately two miles south of that town.
It has a capacity of 55,888 acre-feet, with approximately 4 miles long and 150 feet of maximum depth.
Its construction was completed in 1972.
Located in the southeast of PR, approximately 6 miles north of Guayama (Barrio Carite).
It is formed by a 104-foot high earth dam in the upper part of the Río La Plata. Its normal capacity is 11,310 acre-feet.
Built in 1913, it has a maximum depth of 70 feet.
Located approximately 3.4 miles west of Naguabo. Its normal capacity is 4,455 acre-feet, built outside the Río Blanco riverbed.
Built for PRASA, it was completed in 2010. Its waters used only for domestic consumption in the municipalities of Naguabo, Humacao, Yabucoa, Las Piedras, Vieques, and Culebra.
Located three miles east of Utuado. It receives water coming from from the Viví, Pellejas, and Jordán rivers and the upper part of the Río Grande de Arecibo.
Its normal capacity is 46,012 acre-feet, is about three miles long and has a maximum depth of 200 feet.
Built in 1948, its waters are used for the production of electric energy in the Caonillas I Power Plant and then pass to Lago Dos Bocas.
Located approximately 1.6 miles south-southwest of Fajardo. Its normal capacity of 4,455 acre-feet.
Built outside the Río Fajardo riverbed. Built for PRASA by Río Construction, it was completed in 2006.
Its waters are used only for domestic consumption by the municipalities of Fajardo, Luquillo, and Ceiba.
Located in the municipalities of Quebradillas, Isabela, and San Sebastián. Its normal capacity is 34.276 acre-feet, with a maximum depth of approx. 65 feet and a length of nearly 5 miles.
Built between 1919 and 1928. Its waters are used for consumption by almost all populations in northwestern Puerto Rico and for the irrigation system.
Located on the Río Cerrillos, approximately 1.5 miles north of Ponce.
Total capacity of 47,900 acre-feet, of which 25,000 acre-feet are for domestic use, and 17,100 acre-feet for flood control.
Its construction began in 1983 by the US Army Corps of Engineers and transferred into the hands of the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources in 1998.
